12-1-2012
First group presentation is from Ain Nadia, Nur Amanina and Farah Adibah. They present about Pronouns and Article. This is some explanation about this topic.

What is PRONOUNS??

A pronoun can replace a noun or another pronoun. You use pronouns like "he," "which," "none," and "you" to make your sentences less cumbersome and less repetitive.
Grammarians classify pronouns into several types, including the personal pronoun, the demonstrative pronoun, the interrogative pronoun, the indefinite pronoun, the relative pronoun, the reflexive pronoun, and the intensive pronoun.

Demonstrative Pronouns

A demonstrative pronoun points to and identifies a noun or a pronoun. "This" and "these" refer to things that are nearby either in space or in time, while "that" and "those" refer to things that are farther away in space or time.
The demonstrative pronouns are "this," "that," "these," and "those." "This" and "that" are used to refer to singular nouns or noun phrasesand "these" and "those" are used to refer to plural nouns and noun phrases. Note that the demonstrative pronouns are identical todemonstrative adjectives, though, obviously, you use them differently. It is also important to note that "that" can also be used as a relative pronoun.
In the following sentences, each of the highlighted words is a demonstrative pronoun:
This must not continue.
Here "this" is used as the subject of the compound verb "must not continue."
This is puny; that is the tree I want.
In this example "this" is used as subject and refers to something close to the speaker. The demonstrative pronoun "that" is also a subject but refers to something farther away from the speaker.
Three customers wanted these.
Here "these" is the direct object of the verb "wanted."

Interrogative Pronouns

An interrogative pronoun is used to ask questions. The interrogative pronouns are "who," "whom," "which," "what" and the compounds formed with the suffix "ever" ("whoever," "whomever," "whichever," and "whatever"). Note that either "which" or "what" can also be used as an interrogative adjective, and that "who," "whom," or "which" can also be used as a relative pronoun.
You will find "who," "whom," and occasionally "which" used to refer to people, and "which" and "what" used to refer to things and to animals.
"Who" acts as the subject of a verb, while "whom" acts as the object of a verb, preposition, or a verbal.
The highlighted word in each of the following sentences is an interrogative pronoun:
Which wants to see the dentist first?
"Which" is the subject of the sentence.
Who wrote the novel Rockbound?
Similarly "who" is the subject of the sentence.
Whom do you think we should invite?
In this sentence, "whom" is the object of the verb "invite."
To whom do you wish to speak?
Here the interrogative pronoun "whom " is the object of the preposition "to."

In this sentence, the interrogative pronoun "who" is the subject of the compound verb "will meet."
To whom did you give the paper?
In this example the interrogative pronoun "whom" is the object of the preposition "to."

You can use a relative pronoun is used to link one phrase or clauseto another phrase or clause. The relative pronouns are "who," "whom," "that," and "which." The compounds "whoever," "whomever," and "whichever" are also relative pronouns.

In each of the following sentences, the highlighted word is a relative pronoun.

In this sentence "whom" is the direct object of the verb "believes" and introduces the subordinate clause "whom she believes to be the most efficient". This subordinate clause modifies the noun "workers."

Here "whoever" functions as the subject of the verb "broke."

Here "whichever" modifies the noun "manuscript" and introduces the subordinate clause "whichever manuscript arrives first." The subordinate clause functions as the direct object of the compound verb "will read."

An indefinite pronoun is a pronoun referring to an identifiable but not specified person or thing. An indefinite pronoun conveys the idea of all, any, none, or some.
The most common indefinite pronouns are "all," "another," "any," "anybody," "anyone," "anything," "each," "everybody," "everyone," "everything," "few," "many," "nobody," "none," "one," "several," "some," "somebody," and "someone." Note that some indefinite pronouns can also be used as indefinite adjectives.
The highlighted words in the following sentences are indefinite pronouns:

In this example, "everything" acts as a subject of the compound verb "was thrown."

Type Of Hook

1. PERSONAL EXAMPLE
On Saturday, December 20, 2009, we met a pair of "pengkid" at shopping complex, Kuala Lumpur. One of them wore a tight T-shirt and jeans like a man and the other one wore a blouse. Sam, 20 year old girl who came from Kedah, became a "pengkid" because she was raped by her boyfriend who was older than her. From that point, she did not get any attention from her family. Furthermore, she had been influenced by her friends who had been through the same experience. She came to Kuala Lumpur with a male character and her dressing as well as a guy looks alike. She wanted to be a male because she would understand female more than a male understand them and she also did not want all girls out there to be cheated by guys. Sam life was full of bad experiences and she seemed to have no goals in her life. Nevertheless, few reason such as that can make a woman become a "pengkid", that is family problem, environment, and the past experience.

2. RHETORICAL QUESTIONS.
Have you ever heard about gender conversion? Have you met someone who performed the gender conversion? Now in time, the gender conversion is famous among men and it has become widespread. They are many Asian's men perform the gender conversion in Thailand. This has lead to many negatives effects to them. Bad opinion from community, bring discredition themselves and their family, and easy infection of bacteria are mostly the major for those who performed the gender conversion.

3. CURRENT EVENT.
The news about gay marriage between a Malaysian, Ariff Alfian Rosli and his lover, an Irish man was reported on December 20th last year. It was a big shock to every Malysian's eyes and ears. It was embarrassing enough to know that he got married with his own sex and it was just unacceptable when he was spotted wearing Malaysian tradisional apparel during the ceremony. In facts, Ariff denies the accusation that claimed he had converted out of Islam, he stressed that he were remain a Muslim until the day he die eventhough he had strayed from Islam by marrying his own sex. Naturally all religion prevents their followers from getting involve in homosexual  relationship. Based on Ariff's story, there are many negative impacts that gay marriage offers to the society, religion, and country.

4. DEFINITION.
Shemale can be defined as men who have the same characteristics like a woman. These type of men love about fashion, cosmetic, hairstyle, and many more. Moreover, they also get a good achievement in any field rather than women. They are very talented and creative to create a new things in the world of lifestyle. In addiction, some of them will try to be like a woman using surgery and medicine which is expensive. As a result, this community give a bad reputation to our environment. Thus, some impacts have been recognized based on this situation such as disease problem, legal aspects, and social problems.

5. FACTS AND STATISTIC.
According to the book 'Men In Dresses' by Vernon Coleman, precise figures are difficult to obtain but my research shows that in an average week 100,000 in every 1,000,000 men dress - for some of the time - in something soft, silky, or frilly. Often they just wear a camisole and panties underneath their male clothes. A growing number of men have discovered that putting on stockings and a frock is the quickest way to escape from the stressful responsibilities of being a man. The statistics had showed the number of men who want to become women's has increasing among us in newspaper, radio, television, and internet. There are many causes why men being women such as partners, biological, and media influences.

6. CONTRAST IN THESIS STATEMENT.
Previously, gay marriage was not allowed in New York. It got a lot of resistance from every side. It consisted of few factors such as gay marriage will change the foundation of society as well as encouraged more gay couple to get marriage. In addition, it also against the religion and no religion in this world allowed homosexuality. Gay marriage occurs when people get relationship problems and starts to hate different genders. They feel that the same gender is more in their shoes. There are many negative impacts why gay marriage is allowed now in New York as gay's advocate get the highest vote from the citizen, majority of them are homosexual and less legal relationship, as well as the government get strong protest from gay's communities.

7. EXAMPLE OF QUOTATION.
"As long as society is anti-gay, then it will seem like being gay is anti-social". This thought was written by Joseph Francis. People can see someone personality regarding to the individual behaviour. Furthermore, it will give a bad perception to them. When the society sees the odd thing like man with a man they will say that it was annoying. People will isolate them and think the negative perception about them. But they do not care about the society opinion about them. Based on the statement above, there are many negative impacts of being a gay rather than positive one.

Poem Writing, Pre Writing Technique, And Types Of Hook

Poem That Have Been Written By Me.
I think I can be a better person in the future,
Be a responsible person is all I ever wanted,
Being successful and makes my family proud of me,
So that I will have the courage to move on in my life.

I think I can make my family to be impressed with all my doings,
Someday I will be managed to take care of my parent,
As they take care of me when I was a child,
Until I be a grown up person.

Pre Writing Technique.
Now I do know that there is many of pre writing technique. We have to do a mind mapping, the WH questions (where, when, who, what, why, how), brainstorming, free writing, and quick writing.

Types Of Hook.
There is many types of hook such as personal examples, quotations, facts or statistics, rhetorical questions, current events, contrast to the thesis statement, and definition.

I will make sure to use all of this information and technique in my writings.

Task At The Speaker's Corner

We all have been given a task by Miss Zu. Miss Zu told us to go to the Speaker's Corner to look around it and take pictures that can be the proof that we are there. There's a lot of booth such as Mandarin booth, Arabic booth, and English booth. We was able to interview the student incharge of the booth. Her name is Kak Nora. Kak Nora brief us about China history and I feel extremely happy to know it completely.

I also got the chance to know many types of Arabic dishes such as Tabulah, Hummus, and Syawarma. Tabulah is like a salad which is healthy to be eaten. Hummus is a popular dish in Syria , Palestine, and Lebanon. It must be eaten with fresh or toasted pita bread. Syawarma is a sandwich. The ingredients are sliced lamb, chicken, turkey, beef, or it also can be combined all together. There is many of Arabs outfit like Thaws, Keffiyeh, Tasah, etc. Thaws is a traditional Arabian clothe for man which is sometimes called Thobe. Keffiyeh is a traditional headdress usually worn by Arabian male.

127 Hours

The title of the movie I have watched is "127 Hours". 127 Hours is the true story of the mountain climber named Aron Ralston in his amazing adventure to save himself after a fallen of large stone crashes on his arm and traps him in an isolated canyon.

Outdoor adventurist Aron Ralston believes he is unstoppable and can do it all alone while on his outdoor adventures. He considers the outdoors as his second home. One day, Aron has gone for an adventure alone through the popular isolated Blue John Canyon. He has done this adventure thing so many times and as usual he has not told anyone where he is going. But on that day, he and a large stone fell down into a crevice. His right hand squeeze between the large stone and the crevice wall. Along five days short of water and without food, Aron becomes dehydrated, exhausted, and delusional until all of a sudden he remembered his family and friends. After the fifth day, he decides to cut his forearm to survive.

According to this movie, it is so obvious that Aron is a really strong hearted person. He is willingly to sacrifice his forearm to continue his life. There's a suitable proverb to show what Aron has been through, "when there's a will, there's a way".
